SG Creatures Improve My Game Jam September 22

I will improve upon my entry from July 2022. The game was Super Grateful Creatures. The game is based on Tamagothic and The Sims; you play as a creature, where your stats increase and decrease as you go.

I am participating in this jam, but I am returning to University in October, so I have to prepare for it. With that in mind, I will not put pressure on myself to do good in the jam, but I will try my best.

I didn’t make much process in the last jam as I was trying to make a model of the creature. However, I managed to alter the stats and add achievements. I created the game in Unreal 4, but I am going to attempt to make it in 5

Unreal 5 is new and next game generation. I have created games in the version before, and it can be easy to implement.

I want to add other creatures as NPCs so the player can interact with them. Some will give you quests and can buy/sell off them. They can even be roaming around the map, minding their business.

Something that I didn’t get working in the game yet is SFX. For example, the game should play a sound when the player interacts with an object. I found out that I could hear the sound when I was a good distance away from the object, but I want to see if I could trap the audio in a specific location.

I want to try to make a web version of my game in Unity; I don’t know if it is possible in this jam. My skills in Unity aren’t at the same level as Unreal 4/5, but it will be a good challenge. My idea for Unity is to start with basics because my limited skills and the website might not cope with the demands of playing a complete game. I am doing this to increase my audience as people might not have a computer to run video games. I might be able to see if I can also add touch-screen controls for players on mobile devices.

I will use Trello over this jam to keep on track with features. Also, if I am taking forever on a feature, I will just move on.

Thank you very much for reading this development log. I hope that you enjoy playing the new build when I release it.
